PUTRAJAYA: In the wake of current issues, society should not have a negative perception of teachers who have always been committed and sincere in educating students.

Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said it (society) should instead, extend support and encouragement to teachers in carrying out the task entrusted upon them.

“A majority of the teachers are good, hardworking and trustworthy.

“We cannot blame all just because of the few suspected and arrested,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

He urged various parties to come together in thanking teachers, particularly those who had taught with great patience and much love.

On Thursday, the police detained two male teachers in connection with the leak of the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) Science and English question papers, bringing the total number of arrests to 14.

The suspects comprise 12 teachers, an insurance agent and an engineer.

The Malaysian Examination Board has set Sept 30 as the new date for the two subjects. — Bernama
