TAWAU: The Kalabakan Umno Division approved a resolution at its delegates meeting here yesterday expressing its full backing for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to continuing serving as the prime minister and Umno president.

Its chief, Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh, said Najib’s persistence and perseverance in giving preference to the interests of the nation and well-being of the people should be appreciated and emulated.

Najib had introduced many transformation programmes, such as the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M), the 1Malaysia People’s Shops (KR1M) and such, he said at the meeting, which was opened by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Shafie, who is Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the Umno division’s support for Najib was most significant in ensuring that the party leadership was able to better administer the country.

The Umno vice-president also advised community leaders and the grassroots in Sabah not to be scared to voice out problems affecting the people or else they would ‘punish’ them during the general election.

Shafie said as all community leaders are the people’s fighters, they should be courageous in expressing the rights of the people.

“Only Umno and Barisan National are capable of leading and governing our country. They are the only ones who introduced the Malaysian Constitution and not the opposition parties.

“Therefore, we should continue to struggle for Umno with an eye to getting redress from time to time. We should also continue to provide our solid support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak for his governance,” he said.

On a separate matter, Shafie said the government was providing RM30 million to entrepreneurs in Sabah who are interested to do business but faced financial problems.
