Malaysia to share inputs on aviation safety at ICAO meeting

SEPANG: Malaysia will share its inputs on aviation safety at the 203 Session of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Council meeting held in Montreal, Canada next month.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who will represent Malaysia at the meeting, said he would discuss proposals on the need to update international flight safety, following the two tragedies involving Malaysia Airlines (MAS) aircrafts MH370 and MH17.

“It is crucial for Malaysia to share its inputs at the meeting. We will cooperate with the world body and give the best views possible,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending a ceremony to honour the remains of three victims of the MH17 tragedy at the Bunga Raya Complex of the KL International Airport here yesterday.

On the inputs to be shared, Liow said among others were reviewing safety on flight route and risk assessment to make available to airline operators and air traffic controllers worldwide.

“This is needed to enable all countries to have the capacity to study the security of aircraft routes. Furthermore, we also want international flights to have tracking system from all aitcraft,” he added.

Liow said the inputs were in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s call for a clear standard to determine a safe flight path as ICAO issued advice on areas to avoid but did not declare flight path as unsafe. — Bernama

“We are not sharing sufficient information on the risk of the route and these are the inputs to be discussed,” he said. — Bernama
