PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry will take disciplinary action against the teachers responsible for the leak in the primary school public examination (UPSR) 2014.

Education secretary general Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad said if the teachers are charged in court, they would be temporarily suspended from service, pending which their salary would be reduced by 50 per cent.

“If they are convicted and sentenced, we will proceed with the disciplinary process under the Public Officers Regulations (Conduct and Discipline),” she told reporters after attending the Chill Fest@ Putrajaya programme yesterday.

She was asked on the action to be taken against the teachers now under remand following the exposure involving the Science and English Language subjects.

The ministry has set Sept 30 for UPSR students to resit the examinations for both subjects.

As at last night, 14 individuals have been detained including 12 teachers, an insurance agent and an engineer.

Overall, 22 individuals have been called to give their statements, including six officers of the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate (LPM), 13 teachers, a journalist, an insurance agent and an engineer.

Meanwhile, Madinah clarified that LPM director Dr Na’imah Ishak and LPM Operations deputy director Dr Wan Ilias Wan Salleh had not been suspended from duty.

“They have not been suspended; they have been assigned other duties unrelated to LPM to enable the independent committee to carry out its investigations.

“They are not being punished,” she added.

About 2,000 visitors were at the Chill Fest@ Putrajaya, themed, ‘Melakar Inspirasi’, held at the Youth and Sports Ministry premises here.

The programme was organised by Public Administration Diploma students from the National Institute of Public Administration, with the cooperation of the Youth and Sports Ministry and Education Ministry. — Bernama
