Monarch consents to present Sultan Scholarship to brilliant recipients

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: In producing knowledgeable generation who has the role on the country’s development and progress, five outstanding students have been awarded the ‘Sultan’s Scholar’ Scholarship of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah for the 2014/2015 Session. His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izaddien Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to present the Scholarship Award at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

The Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Sultan’s Scholar Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship and is awarded to students identified by the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs as excellent students in academic studies and extra-curricular activities to further their studies in various academic fields at prestigious higher learning institutions overseas that have been approved by the Yayasan and accredited by the government of His Majesty.

Also present at the ceremony were His Majesty’s sons, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, the Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Governing Board.

The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the State Mufti, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Awg Hj Abd Aziz Juned.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to present the Sultan’s Scholar Scholarship award to the five recipients of the scholarship. The first recipient, Awg Md Nasruddin Hj Sulaiman, was a student of the Tutong Sixth Form Centre. Awg Md Nasruddin will further his studies in Chemistry at Oxford University.

The next recipient was Awgku Ahmad Faris Ramadhani Pg Hj Sallehuddin, a former student of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute. Awgku Ahmad Faris Ramadhani will continue his studies in Takhassus Al-Quran Wal Qiraat at Mahad Qiraat, Al-Azhar, Shoubra, Egypt.

The third recipient was Dyg Izyan Nayli Hj Abd Aziz. Former recipient of the Special Scheme of the Human Resource Fund Scholarship who underwent her studies in ‘A’ Level in Cardiff, United Kingdom, Dyg Izyan Nayli will now continue her studies in Physical Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Dyg Nurul Syadirah Awg Sayang was the former recipient of the Special Scheme of the Human Resource Fund Scholarship to further her studies in ‘A’ Level at Harrogate Ladies’ College, United Kingdom. Dyg Nurul Syadirah will continue her studies in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics Warwick University, United Kingdom.

The last recipient was Dyg Rozana Awang Mustafa, former student at the Sayydina Ali Secondary School. Under the Sultan’s Scholar Scholarship, Dyg Rozana will continue her studies in Physics at Imperial College London. To bless the ceremony, Doa Selamat was read by the State Mufti.

His Majesty then consented to receive the junjung ziarah and mingle with the award recipients and their parents. As of 2013, the Yayasan has extended the Sultan’s Scholar Scholarship to PhD and currently three people have been awarded with the scholarship.

The ‘Sultan’s Scholar’ Scholarship is one of the capacity building programmes introduced by the government of His Majesty through the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah towards making the Nation’s Vision 2035 a reality of producing a highly educated and skilled citizens. Since the conferment of the prestigious scholarship award eight years ago, a total of 36 students had received the award.

The ‘Sultan’s Scholar’ Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship, awarded with the aim to produce knowledgeable, skilled, disciplined and well-mannered individuals for the long-term benefits of the Religion, Monarch and Nation.
