KAPIT: A team from the Police Department lifted the Hulu Rajang Merdeka Cup Futsal title at the indoor stadium of the Sports Complex here at Jalan Bletih here.

But victory was decided by a penalty shoot-out after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Naga Asmara at the end of regulation time.

Pippercross V-Pes beat Legend Status in the playoff match for third place.

The first four teams collected prize money of RM800, RM500, RM300 and RM150 respectively.

The three-day tournament, held in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations, was participated by those aged 16 and above representing various government agencies, local clubs and associations.

Hulu Rejang United FC president and organising chairman Kennedy Kuyang was pleased by the response to the competition organised for the first time by the club.

“With such encouraging response we are considering organising it next year with a better offer by increasing the cash prize” Kennedy added when commenting on ways to improve and upgrade the staus of the tournament.

Club advisor Johnny Osman, who is also special assistant to the Member of Parliament for Hulu Rajang Wilson Ugak Kumbong, officiated at the closing ceremony and gave away the prizes.
