PBS says it never agreed to allow Hiew to join MCA

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has never given consented to allow Luyang assemblyman Dr Hiew King Cheu’s admission into Barisan Nasional (BN), its assistant secretary general, Datuk Herbert T Lagadan, said.

PBS’ stand against all the independent elected representatives’ good intention to join BN had never changed, he stressed yesterday.

Herbert was of the opinion that MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai’s statement alleging the State Government had given support to Dr Hiew’s admission into MCA was very misleading.

“There had never been a consensus to allow for Dr Hiew’s admission into MCA. In fact the president of PBS, Tan Sri Pairin Kitingan, had instructed the party’s secretary general to officially write a letter to the BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to lodge an objection against any Sabah independent representatives joining BN,” he said.

PBS, according to Herbert, strongly believes that BN must not open the floodgate of future dissension within BN.

He was of the opinion that if BN easily allow independent elected representatives to join the coalition, then many aspiring candidates from within the BN component parties would dare to stand against BN candidate on an independent ticket in future elections as they know that they would later admitted into BN’s fold.

“Who can stop a PBS member from contesting against BN candidate from MCA in Luyang as an independent in the coming 14th general election? Hence precedence must not be foolishly created by BN.

“MCA must wisely weigh the pros and cons of strengthening the party at the expense of destroying BN’s unity. Let me remind the MCA president that Dr Hiew is an ardent foe of BN in Kadamaian.

“Dr Hiew and Lim Kit Siang have travelled in Kadamaian prior to the 13th General Election condemning BN and described it as a dictator and incapable government. Why is it now he suddenly turns BN friendly? He and Kit Siang have taught the people of Kadamaian to hate BN,” Herbert claimed.

Hence, Dr Hiew must offer an apology to the people of Kadamaian for his destructive and mischievous acts against BN, Herbert said, adding that Dr Hiew must tell the people of Kadamaian that all the speeches made by him and Kit Siang’s against BN were all lies.
