LAWAS: The Public Service Commission (SPA) needs to improve its efficiency and professionalism when it comes to scouting for the candidates to join the civil service.

Lawas District officer Hussaini Hakim said this mission would be in line with the role of SPA as the agency responsible in matching job applicants with the employers.

“The government aims to improve the well-being of the people in the country by offering jobs in various departments and in turn, reducing the unemployment rate,” he said during SPA Day at Indoor Stadium in Banting here recently.

Hussaini said while the commission should continue scouting and supplying good quality civil servants, it should also be able to match applicants with suitable job prospects through recruitment profiling and interviews.

“Skills, efficiency, capability, qualification, creativity, innovation and productivity are among the attributes that SPA should be looking for in any candidate,” he said, adding that the commission was intent at implementing job intakes based on qualification, racial composition, demographics and geography. Such an approach will be a realistic and comprehensive one in handling uneven distribution of civil servants, as far as demographics and geography are concerned,” he added.

At the event, various booths offering vacancies across many government departments had been set up, which drew hundreds of people looking for job prospects in the public sector.
