KUALA LUMPUR: The standard operating procedures (SOP) on civil servants would be further enhanced to ensure they are always at their level best, Public Service Department (PSD) director-general Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal said yesterday.

He said it would also be in tandem  with the transformation of civil service that was being carried out, and also to improve the public’s perception on their integrity following several negative incidents affecting the public sector.

“We have procedures which can be improved. We will review the work processes, those which need to be improved, we will improve,” he told reporters after opening the Public Sector Innovation Seminar here yesterday.

He said this when asked to comment on the recent leak in the examination papers for this year’s Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) and on tax evasion by government employees.

Earlier in his speech, Mohamad Zabidi said the world was now in the era of innovation where idea was an invaluable commodity.

In this era, he said, every organisation would rely on the speed to give feedback on the environment which was always changing.

He also called in all government departments to be active in setting up innovation teams to implement high-impact projects and to be innovative, as well as creative, in disseminating government policies to the society, including on the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

At the event, Mohamad Zabidi also launched a book, with the title ‘Kreativiti dan Inovasi Manjana Modal Insan Produktif’ (Creativity and Innovation Generate Productive Human Capital), published by the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). — Bernama
