Two held over shooting during funeral prayers

KEPALA BATAS: The police have arrested two men suspected to have been involved in a shooting incident during funeral prayers at a house here last Monday in which a man was killed and another injured.

Seberang Perai Utara Police chief ACP Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said the suspects, in their 30s and 20s, were held yesterday in Padang Serai and Kampung Selamat at 4 pm and 7.30 pm, respectively.

“The suspect in his 30s has three criminal records involving gambling and drugs,” he told reporters at a farewell reception for retiring police personnel here last night.

Last Monday, Lee Wooi Shong, 34, and a friend were shot during funeral prayers at a house in Kampung Selamat, Tasek Gelugor, at 10.45 pm.

Lee died at the Kepala Batas Hospital at 2.20 am the following day. His 38-year-old friend has recovered from serious injuries to his hands and has been discharged from the hospital.

Abdul Rahman said the two suspects would be brought to the Butterworth Court today to be remanded for investigation. -Bernama.
