UTC Sarawak opens doors to public with new look

KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Jamilah Anu had a walkabout around the newly-refurbished Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Sarawak at Bukit Permata Carpark here Friday.

The couple was accompanied by Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Naroden Majais, Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Ghani, Plaza Merdeka Holdings managing director Datuk Steve Ng, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk James Chan, state deputy police commissioner DCP Datuk Dr Chai Khin Chung, Kuching police chief ACP Roslan Bek, as well as heads of departments.

The renovation of the centre costs RM48.5 million. Currently it houses 24 federal and 13 state agencies and five facilities, including banks.

UTC Sarawak is the eighth established in the country after Johor. The centre is a part of the government’s transformation drive under the National Blue Ocean Strategy, aiming at providing the urban community with services offered by key government, private sector and non-governmental establishments, under one roof. It operates from 8.30am to 9pm daily, except public holidays.

At present, the Immigration Department, National Registration Department (JPN), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), MBKS, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Kuching Water Board, Syarikat Sesco Bhd and Pos Malaysia Bhd have been running their operations since Sept 17.

Other services such as 1Malaysia Clinic, gymnasium and cyber cafe are expected to commence by the second week of next month.

Among other agencies available at the centre are Public Complaints Bureau, Mara, Human Resource Ministry, Royal Malaysia Police Force, Lembaga Tabung Haji, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, Social Security Organisation (Socso), National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), Welfare Department, Tourism Ministry, Sarawak Tourism Board, Agriculture Department, Sarawak Energy Bhd, Tabung Baitumal Sarawak, Resident’s Office and Kuching District Office, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Bhd (SME Bank), Ar-Rahnu and Kedai Kain 1Malaysia.
