KUCHING: A threesome who swiped a car found their joy ride short-lived just four hours after police were alerted to the vehicle reported missing from Padungan on Sunday.

The 12-year-old boy caught hiding in the car boot to escape police.

The two suspects handcuffed after their arrest in Tabuan Jaya for driving a car reported missing in Jalan Song.

Kuching District Police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad said the car was detected by the crime prevention branch of Tabuan Jaya police station during a patrol in Kampung Tabuan Melayu, driven without a registration plate at 12.45am.

A 12-year-old was caught with two other older men aged 33 and 27 when the boy thought he could outsmart police by hiding in the boot. Kuching police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad who confirmed the arrest said the suspects were arrested near a mosque at Kampung Selipar Putus in Tabuan Melayu.

“They were inside a Proton Iswara car and were behaving in a suspicious manner which prompted police to stop them.

The driver stopped the car and they tried to escape but were unsuccessful and police managed to round up all of them,” said Roslan, adding that all three tested negative for drugs and had no previous criminal record.

He said the car seized from them had been reported missing. It was last parked at Jalan Song Thian Cheok on Sunday (Sept 28) around 9pm.

Roslan added that all the suspects will be under remand for police investigations.
