Dozens hectares of agricultural land burned

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Dozens of hectares of agricultural land in the Subdistrict Mandastana, Barito Kuala, again on fire. Fleet of firefighters trying to extinguish a fire that started at 14:00, while the fire approaching residential areas, Antaranews reported.

A Mandastana resident, Hamid, on Monday,said the fire probably derived from bushes and spread to agricultural land which had just been harvested.

According to him, when the fire began to bigger, some firefighters had attempted to spray water on the fire, until the flames started going out.

“Since the fire began extinguished, the fire left the location to tackle fires in other areas,” he said.

But shortly after the abandonment, the fire was still burning the land, suddenly enlarged, and continued to spread back burn the land to near residential areas.

These conditions made people worry, when the firefighters was not successful, then the majority of homes will burn out.

Land fires also make Mandastana region and all the way from Central Kalimantan to Banjarmasin covered with smog, so that all road users should be extra careful.

According to some farmers, agricultural fire very detrimental to them, because after burning the soil structure becomes damaged. As a result, yields dropped sharply, from supposedly in one hectare can produce one ton, after burning usually only produce 600 kilograms of grain.
