Sports Science conference receives support from practitioners

KUCHING: The Sarawak Taekwondo Association (WTF) has come forward to support the 2nd IPGM International Conference on Teacher Learning and Development by sending its instructors and members to the conference at Hilton Kuching from November 4-6.

Its president Mohd Salleh Sani, accompanied by state technical chairman Tan Check Joon, recently collected the registration forms from IPGKTAR representative Dr Chin Ngien Siong, a lecturer in sports science at the institution.

Also present was Sarawak Sports Corporation chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee.

IPGKTAR and IPG Malaysia, in collaboration with the Sarawak Sports Corporation (Ministry of Social Development), are organising the three-day conference which focuses on Sports Science and Teacher Education.

The theme of the conference is ‘Towards Excellence in Sports Science Teacher Education’ and this is the first international conference that focuses on sports science in Sarawak.

IPGKTAR director and event chairperson Hamsiah Abdullah Masni welcomed researchers, academics, teachers, coaches, students and practitioners with an interest in sports and education to participate as it will provide valuable opportunity for the sharing of ideas towards transforming higher learning in sports science and education.

Dr Ong called upon more practitioners in the sports industry and teachers to register and participate in this conference as through scientific studies being presented in conferences, they gain further knowledge in the areas related to sports and education that can directly contribute to a holistic development of sports science and education respectively.

The conference has attracted presenters from universities in various disciplines in sports science and education.

A host of speakers, include Professor Dr Tony Morris (Victoria University, Australia), Professor Dr Michael Chia (National Institute of Education, Singapore), Associate Professor Dr Wee Eng Hoe (TAR Uni. College), Associate Professor Dr Ong Kuan Boon (UPSI), Dr Balbir Singh (UM), Dr Tengku Fadillah Tengku Kamalden (UPM), Dr Vincent Teo (UM), Julie Dyer (Deakin University, Australia) and Associate Professor Dr Souba Rethinasamy (UNIMAS).

Morris, who is one of world’s leading experts in Sports Imagery, will conduct a workshop on ‘Measuring and Profiling Motivation’.

Chia is a sought-after expert in the area of fitness and well-being of youth and school physical education.

He is also an invited expert panel member for the International Olympic Medical Commission Consensus Group on Youth Talent Development in sports.

The conference is also supported by the Sarawak Convention Bureau and the ISN Kuching Satellite Centre.
