Chinese engineer gets death for murder

SHAH ALAM: A senior engineer from China was sentenced to death by the High Court here, yesterday, after being found guilty of killing a Malaysian colleague three years ago.

Fang Jin Zhong, 57, an engineer in a factory at Jalan Kapar, Bukit Raja, Klang, was found guilty of murdering Loo Lee Keng, 28, on July 6, 2011, at the factory premises in accordance with Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Judicial Commissioner Collin Lawrence Sequerah when sentencing said the accused who was married had failed to raise a reasonable doubt on the prosecution’s case.

He said: “The accused failed to discharge the burden to prove that his action in inflicting wounds onto the deceased was due to grave, sudden provocation, sudden fight or in the exercise of his right to self defence.”

According to the facts of the case, Fang caused Loo’s death using a sharp weapon in a fight that broke out between them at a store on the premises.

The victim was pierced through the heart and was also stabbed on other parts of the body. — Bernama

The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Faten Hadni Khairuddin while the accused was represented by counsel Lim Chi Chau and Lai Chee Hoe. — Bernama
