Man dies, wife, sister-in-law injured in collision

PAPAR: A man was killed while his wife and sister-in-law were injured when the Perodua Kembara vehicle they were traveling in collided with a Perodua Alza at Km 11 Papar-Beaufort Road here yesterday.

The wrecked Perodua Kembara at the scene of the collision with Perodua Alza at Kilometer 11, Papar-Beaufort road.

Joseph Ukab, 53, from Kampung Mendulong, Sipitang succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the Papar Hospital, several hours after the 7.45am incident.

His wife and sister-in-law, aged 53 and 21 respectively, are still being treated at the same hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

It is believed that the victim, who is the driver of the Perodua Kembara, and his family members were heading to Papar town when their vehicle collided with the Perodua Alza vehicle that was coming from the opposite direction.

It is said that the driver of the Perodua Alza, an auxiliary police personnel with SOGT Kimanis, had lost control of the vehicle, which then swerved to the on-coming Perodua Kembara.

All the injured victims were taken to Papar Hospital but Joseph was pronounced dead several hours later.

Meanwhile, district police chief Deputy Superintendent George Abd Rakhman said investigation had been carried out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also urged eyewitnesses to come forward to assist police in their investigation.
