Oct 30 case management of politician

KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court here, has fixed Oct 30 for the case management of a politician who was charged with sedition earlier last month.

Former state assembly election candidate and member of the Sabah State Reform Party (STAR) 49-year-old David Orok, who appeared before judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad, was represented by counsel Tengku Ahmad Fuad and assisted by Henry Gudid.

Tengku Ahmad had applied for plea bargaining in an effort to dispose of the case swiftly and justly.

To do that, however, Tengku Ahmad requested that the remainder of the documents needed for the case be served by Friday.

Deputy public prosecutor Dominic Chew Ban Huat stated that the prosecution would serve the relevant documents in due course, adding that they (the prosecution) were still waiting for the relevant forensic evidence.

David was alleged to have posted comments in the social media website, Facebook which purportedly insulted Islam and Prophet Muhammad on July 4 at an unnumbered house in Kampung Roun, Jalan Labuaya, Topokon in Tuaran.

His offence, under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948, is punishable with a fine not exceeding RM5,000, a maximum jail of three years, or both.

During his first mentioning, the court granted David bail of RM7,000 under one surety and ordered him to surrender his international passport while also adding that he had to report to the Tuaran police station every Monday until his trial date.
