According to 9to5Mac, Apple has reached the final stages of testing a 27-inch iMac with a higher resolution Retina Display and the new computer could be revealed in mid-October alongside the latest version of the company’s desktop and notebook operating system Yosemite and the latest generation iPads.

Yosemite, which will be offered as a free download to existing Mac owners, is optimized for higher resolution ultra-high definition displays, a feature that is adding weight to the latest rumors.

As for styling, the Retina Display iMac is expected to keep the same shape and form as the existing range but with some higher internal specifications, such as chipset, and Apple is also expected to continue selling the existing range of non-Retina Display computers too in order to offer a more affordable tier of products to consumers.

The company took a similar approach when it brought Retina Displays to its notebook range back in 2012.

As well as a new iMac, Apple is expected to unveil a new iPad Air with a faster processor, a Touch ID fingerprint scanner and Apple Pay mobile payment compatibility.
