BUKIT MERTAJAM: A couple is being remanded for seven days after the body of a five-year-old boy was found in Kampung Tongkang, Permatang Tinggi, here, yesterday.

Central Seberang Perai District police chief, ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said the woman, 30, who was the boy’s mother and her boyfriend, 24, were remanded from yesterday.

“We hope their detention can facilitate the police investigation,” he said when contacted by Bernama, here, yesterday.

The child’s body was found at noon yesterday by police after they found the statements of the woman, who reported her son had gone missing in Padang Kota, George Town on Tuesday, contradictory and arousing suspicion.

Rusli said police were still waiting for the post-mortem report from Seberang Jaya Hospital to know the cause of the child’s death.
