KUCHING: The state government is constantly looking into improving the civil service to ensure it is always at its level best.

State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani said with the ongoing changes that occur within the state civil service, it was imperative that its work processes and services moved forward as well to benefit the people.

“The state civil service is always changing and to be in tandem with the changes, we have to improve our procedures and services,” he told a press conference after closing an orientation programme for civil servants here yesterday.

Morshidi said civil servants were encouraged to participate in the Innovative and Creative Circle (KIK) where teams were formed to find solutions in solving issues and problems which affect the services provided for the people.

“We have a KIK team from Bintulu which has found a solution for a clogged water pump system due to sediment from the river by installing a floating water pump instead. The water pump is now working well and there is no longer interruption to the water supply.

“That is the beauty of KIK team which involves a group of civil servants thinking of a system, changing the way they do the job through a process and when they have come up with a solution, they can implement it,” he said, adding that 252 KIK teams had been set up in the state.

Apart from KIK, Morshidi said other approaches towards improving the civil service were through the Key Focus Activity (KFA) involving heads of departments as well as High Performance Team (HPT) solution comprising heads of departments such as Public Works Department and Fire and Rescue Department, among others.

“Everybody is always involved in looking for a solution towards improving the civil service. We are not perfect yet as there are many more things that can be improved.

“It’s best we continue to find solutions so that we will not be complacent in what we do,” he said.
