Govt servant claims trial to hurting wife

KOTA KINABALU: A 40-year-old government servant, charged with causing hurt to his wife, claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.

Murhan Musa, who appeared before magistrate Cindy Juce Mc Balitus, was alleged to have committed the offence on July 18, this year between 1.05am and 1.20am at an unnumbered house in Kampung Muhibbah, Putatan.

The charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, is punishable with up to one year’s imprisonment, and a fine which may extend to RM2,000.

Chief inspector Lim Swee Beng, prosecuting, requested for a new case management date and for bail of RM4,000 to be set under two local sureties.

Case management was duly set for October 21 and Murhan, who pleaded for a lighter bail, was granted RM2,500 bail under two local sureties.

Meanwhile, the same court set October 22 for case management of a 26-year-old man who was alleged to have caused grievous injury to his wife.

Syed Sabir Ahmad, a lorry driver, was granted RM2,000 bail under two local sureties by the same magistrate.

The unrepresented Syed was alleged to have committed the offence at the roadside of Jalan Penampang Bypass around 2 am on July 7 this year.

He was alleged to have caused grievous hurt to Noorshafenas Yahman, 23, which is an offence under Section 325 of the Penal Code and is punishable with a prison term which may extend to seven years as well as a fine, upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat had requested the court to set a new trial date and for Syed to be granted RM4,000 bail under two local sureties.
