SIBU: An insurance agent lodged a police report on Tuesday after a money lender allegedly threatened to sever his legs if he failed to settle his debt.

The 40-something agent acknowledged he had borrowed about RM150,000 from the money lender, at an interest rate of 10 per cent a month.

The money was to help his friend, who had run away.

On Tuesday, the money lender was said to have called him to settle the debt by 6pm that day or risked losing his legs.

He claimed the money lender went to his house, but he was at work then.

In another case, 12 men suspected of fighting at the quarters of a shipyard in Sungai Bidut here at 11pm on Monday have been placed under a 3-day remand.

In the incident, a 21-year-old man almost lost his right ear. He is still warded in Sibu Hospital.
