Report failed to mention Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s role

THE Borneo Post report on the damaged Bukit Lima Park being rehabilitated with funds from Ta Ann (many thanks to Ta Ann for its corporate social responsibility) erred by not mentioning the part played by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation in the rehabilitation process.

Just in case The Borneo Post does not know, the sustainable management of parks such as Bukit Lima falls under the jurisdiction of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (vide the Forestry Corporation Ordinance, Section 10).

Since Sarawak Forestry Corporation was not mentioned in The Borneo Post report as being involved in the rehabilitation work, it would appear a dereliction of duty on the part of its Sibu regional office. As chairman of the corporation, I would be seriously concerned about such negligence.

As a matter of fact, Sarawak Forestry Corporation has been actively involved in the rehabilitation work at Bukit Lima forest park right from the word go. It would only be simple courtesy on the part of The Borneo Post to acknowledge Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s role and contribution in the rehabilitation work there.

As chairman of the board, I am mindful of public opinion on a government-linked company such as Sarawak Forestry Corporation being given management responsibility and they are not there in the thick of things. Something is amiss there in Sibu and must be immediately redressed.

Datu Dr Yusoff Hanifah,

Chairman  Sarawak Forestry Corporation
