TAWAU: A 59-year-old local man was killed after the Toyota jeep he was travelling in went off the road at Mile 26 Kalabakan-Sapulut Road, on Wednesday.
District police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said the victim was identified as passenger Kechil bin Awang from Kampung Tanjung Batu Laut, who suffered serious head and other injuries and died at the scene, while the driver who also suffered serious head injuries, was sent to Tawau Hospital.
It is believed that the driver Julito bin Kotalis, 37 driving from Sapaulut to Kalabakan town, lost control of his vehicle in the 2.30 pm incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and police call for witnesses to help in the investigation.
