SIBU: Sarawak are sending four boys and four girls to the 16th Ong Beng Hee and Nicol David Trophy 2014 which will be held in Negri Sembilan from Oct 14-19.
The boys are Nathan Kueh, Tommy Lau, Caleb and Clifford Tays while the girls are Rachel Kong, Nathalel Sim, Joey Ting and Chloe Ting.
Squash Racquets Association of Sarawak (SRAS) president Robert Lau Hui Yew said some of them should be able to make the cut for the final and hopefully, bring back some medals.
The competition is divided into individual and team events for the elite and development players.
Lau said top players would be identified through the championship and later invited to Bukit Jalil Sports School.
“This is to prepare the players for individual and team events and groom them for the Sukma, World Juniors or Asian Juniors championship.”
Lau said SRAS had been working hard over the years to send young players to take part in bigger tournaments.
He described the Ong Beng Hee and Nicol David Trophy as one such venue that attracted all the best squash stars from throughout the country.
Besides, Lau said our juniors will also be sent to the Sportexcel National Junior Circuit from
Nov 7-9 in Kuala Lumpur, CIMB Junior Inter-State in Kuala Lumpur November, Penang Junior Open and Singapore Junior Open.
