SEMPORNA: Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal hopes the 2015 Budget tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak next week would give priority to security aspects in Sabah.

Shafie said to ensure security in Sabah remained at the optimum level, the government should beef up the security system in the east coast of Sabah or the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

“I hope when the budget is tabled, the government will give importance to improve assets and equipment for training so as to beef up the security structure in the ESSZone,” he told reporters after the Aidiladha prayers Korban ceremony, here yesterday.

He hoped rural development would also be taken into account when the 2015 Budget is tabled because strengthening the rural development would help generate the economy of the country.

Shafie said he also welcomed the extended dawn-to-dusk curfew imposed in six districts by the ESSZone because it was an effective way to prevent kidnapping and trans-border crimes. — Bernama
