KOTA KINABALU: Two hooded and masked men, each armed with what was believed to be a pistol, staged a daring grab and dash robbery at a Senheng outlet at Kepayan Point commercial centre, and escaped with cash, smartphones and a tablet computer on Monday evening.

The incident took place around 6pm when the duo, donning hooded sweaters and masks, entered the outlet and demanded the cashier hand over money to them.

The store manager, Khairuddin Abdullah, 31, said the two men, whom he believed were locals, were each armed with a pistol.

There were only four staff and a customer at the outlet when the incident took place, as two other staff had gone out for dinner.

The robbers threatened and roughed up a 22-year-old female employee and a 25-year-old male staff at the cashier counter, forcing them to hand over the RM3,000 cash to them.

The robbers then took off after making a quick grab of four Sony smartphones, a Samsung smartphone and an Apple tablet computer that were displayed in the outlet.

Khairuddin estimated the total loss at around RM12,000.

He said the Senheng Kepayan Point branch was opened around 18 months ago and operated from 11am to 9.30pm. The store is equipped with closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
