MIRI: Some 50 people yesterday attended the ‘Drainage and River Cleanliness Awareness’ programme organised by Local Agenda 21 of the Miri City Council (MCC) in collaboration with Pustaka Miri.

Earlier in the morning, the participants visited the water treatment plant in Lambir where they were briefed on the process of water treatment.

Later, a series of talks relating to the programme were held at Pustaka Miri from 2pm.

The talks were divided into four topics – disposal of residual effluent into the river, maintenance and cleaning of drainage system, river pollution causes and issues, and river pollution impact on health.

Giving the talks were officers from Department of Environment, MCC, Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Miri branch as well as Health Department Miri.

It was the first integrated programme on environmental issues held by MCC with other government departments.
