The highlights were cultural dances by Unimas students and a performance by yoyo expert Ryan Chung, who impressed with his tricks. However, it is understood that some other activities had to be called off due to the stormy conditions.

Assistant Minister of Youth Development (Urban Areas) Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah officiated at the event on behalf of Minister of Social Development Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.

This year’s Youth Carnival themed ‘You Are The 1’ is set to break the Guinness World Record for the largest number of retro walk participants, which is presently held by Germany with 1,507 participants.

Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip is scheduled to launch the retro walk at Grand Margherita Hotel tomorrow (Oct 11) at 7.30am.

Today (Oct 10), 14 semi-finalists will compete to book a place in the finale for the One Sarawak Youth Band Challenge.

The finale on Sunday, when a crowd of over 1,000 is expected, will involve the closing ceremony and prize presentations.
