Thousands pray for rain

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Thousands of South Kalimantans performed a prayer to ask for rain or Istisqa at the courtyard of Sabilal Muhtadin mosque along with Governor Rudy Ariffin, Antaranews reported.

The mass prayer was held in Banjarmasin on Tuesday led by the mosque’s imam KH Husin Nafarin and participated by thousands of people from all walks of life ranging from scholars, government officials, military, police, students to the general public.

Since morning, thousands of people have filled the yard of the largest mosque in South Kalimantan, in the hope of receiving God’s favour in the form of rain soon, to cope with drought during the dry season the past few months.

South Kalimantan Governor Rudy Ariffin after the prayer that rain was expected to fall soon.

According to him, since the last few months, South Kalimantan experienced a long drought. The condition is becoming one of the causes of forest fires and haze which resulted in crop failure.

On the occasion, the Governor also urged the district and city government in South Kalimantan also hold praying for rain together with the entire community, with the hope of a long dry season in South Kalimantan pass.
