15 months’ jail for possessing stolen car

KUCHING: A self-employed man was sentenced to 15 months behind bars when he was found guilty of possessing a stolen compact car.

Ong Su Ann, 38, from Jalan Tabuan was convicted under Section 411 of the Penal Code by Magistrate Zubaidah Shakarwi after she ruled that his defence failed to cast reasonable doubt over the case.

He committed the offence and was arrested on Jan 4 last year at 7.25pm at Padungan.

Ong was driving the car along the road but was stopped by a police team during a crime prevention operation after being seen in a suspicious manner. An inspection made on the vehicle revealed that it was the one which was reported stolen by its owner in May 2012 at Jalan Batu Lintang.

His custodial sentence was ordered to take effect from the remand date which was April 10 this year.

In the same court room, a man was slapped with a RM1,600 fine in default six months jail after he pleaded guilty to consuming dangerous drug, Methamphetamine.

Abdul Aziz Karim, 35, from Kampung Boyan Petra Jaya tested positive after a urine test conducted on him at Central Police Station here around 5pm on Aug 7 this year.

He was convicted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1953.
