SIBU: The Magistrates Court here yesterday fined 17 men RM300 each after they pleaded guilty to participating in a cockfighting session.
They were charged under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Ayam Sabong) 1962.
The 17 were arrested when plainclothes policemen raided a cockfighting pit at Pulau Kerto last Sunday afternoon.
The police arrived in rented vehicles at 3.50pm under the pretext of wanting to join the game.
On realising the presence of the lawmen, participants scattered but the cops managed to nab 17 men and seized three roosters, a cockfighting spur, some cash, a weighing machine and a notice board.
