Woman lost for seven hours in Sandakan forest

SANDAKAN: A 24-year-old woman here lost for almost seven hours in a recreational forest near Taman Tshun Ngen off Mile 5, on Wednesday.

According to district police chief, ACP Zabidi Mohd Zain, the woman identified as Ting Ding Ling was reported missing by her friends at 6.30pm.

However, a search and rescue team found the woman near the forest area of Sibuga Water Department around 1.15am yesterday, Zabidi said.

A total 56 members of the search and rescue team comprising the police, Civil Defence Department, Forestry Department, Fire and Rescue Department and Pedestrian Club were mobilised in the search and rescue operation.

It was learnt that the woman went to the forest for an exercise with her friend. However, she asked her friend to walk ahead of her after before being reported lost.

The woman was unhurt during the incident and was given outpatient treatment at the Sandakan Duchess of Kent Hospital, he said.

Meanwhile, Zabidi advised members of the public going for an exercise especially in recreational forest to prioritise their safety by going with friends and avoid tracking in unfamiliar routes.
