PORT DICKSON: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) constantly monitors its members to ensure they are not influenced by negative elements or activities, says Army chief, General Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor.
“In fact, thorough vetting is carried out in the recruitment of new soldiers, during courses, promotion exercise and overseas assignments.
“I am confident in our (ATM) screening as it will curb any intention by a member to be involved in prohibited or unlawful activities.
“Members of the military force should always maintain good and ethical image and should be noble in character. A positive image is important in gaining the respect of the general public,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after a passing-out parade of young soldiers at the Basic Army Training Centre (Pusasda) here yesterday.
Also present were Army Deputy Chief Lt Gen Datuk Seri Panglima Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi and Army Field Commander Lt Gen Datuk Seri Zulkiple Kassim.
On recent media reports of militant groups recruiting Malaysians to fight in countries of conflict, he said, action would be taken against any ATM member found to have committed such offences.
In another development, Raja Mohamed Affandi said ATM had mobilised its members and assets in preparation for any calamity, including flood.
The parade saw 1,506 soldiers complete their six-month training for the current session.
Mohd Tarmizi Hashim was adjudged ‘Overall Best Young Soldier’ while Norashikin Mazlan won the ‘Best Academic’ award.
Awards were also presented to Mohd Najdi Muhammad for ‘Best in Marching’, Kriner anak Seris for ‘Best in Physical Exercise’ and Muhammad Asyraf Hazwan Muhammad Ridhwan Teh for ‘Best Shooter’. — Bernama
