Find fake cops harassing Dayak activist, police told

KUCHING: The Home Affairs Ministry has directed police to undertake a thorough investigation on the report by Dayak Informal Group (DIG) member Dr Dusit Jaul, who stated that he had been harassed and threatened by five individuals claiming to be from the Bukit Aman Special Branch.

On Oct 7, around 10.45am, the alleged five came to Dusit’s residence at Tabuan Jaya and, without producing any credential, warned the Dayak activist’s wife, who was alone at the time, against him being vocal about the rights and issues affecting the community.

Dusit also claimed the five men – three of whom spoke fluent Iban, while the other two were Indian and Malay – were trailing him to Lubok Antu on Oct 4 and 5, having asked him to pull over and wind all his car windows down.

According to Deputy Home Affairs Minister Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, there had been no record or order of such exercise being carried out by police.

“I have given instructions to the police to probe the case until they find out who these five individuals are,” the Santubong MP told a press conference after attending a briefing on Good and Services Tax (GST) by the Customs and Excise Department for his constituents at MPC Productivity Hall here yesterday.

“We do not want people to disguise themselves as police officers and, consequently, smearing the name of the force and the government,” he added.

Speaking on a separate incident where a police investigating officer was reported to have been collaborating with thieves, Wan Junaidi also asked the force to probe further on it.

“If a policeman is caught doing such act, I do not want the case to be covered up. We must be stern if we want government agencies and departments like police to be respected by the people,” he said, adding that he had instructed police to conduct immediate investigation on the matter.
