KUCHING: South Africa and China clinched the boys and girls doubles crowns respectively in the finals of the 24th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup (II) ITF Junior Tennis Championship (Grade 3) at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association tennis centre yesterday.

South African twins Francois and Okkie Kellerman made up for their disappointment in the singles competition by walking away with the boys doubles title.

The tournament third seeds were never really troubled by sixth seeded Indonesians Anthony Susanto and Hendrawan Susanto to win the final 6-3, 6-2 in one hour. Youmizhuma Youmizhuma and Duzhima Duzhima of China, also seeded third, lifted the girls doubles trophy after defeating the Uzbek pair of Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva and Komola Umarova 6-3, 6-4.

The boys singles semi-finals saw top seed and ITF No. 111 player Djurabeck Karimov of Uzbekistan beating Anthony Susanto of Indonesia, the 13th seed, 6-1, 7-6(5) to move into today’s final where he will face Tiago Cacao from Portugal.

Cacao, the ninth seed, eased past fourth seed Scott Jones of Australia 6-2, 6-3 in the other semi-final yesterday.

In the girls singles competition, top seed Tessah Andrianjafitrimo of France is only one match away from winning the title after she overcame India’s Mihika Yadav 6-3, 7-5 in the semi-finals.

The ITF No. 100 player only needs to beat the third seed from Kazakhstan Gozal Ainitdinova after the latter recovered from one set down 2-6 to beat seventh seed from Chinese Taipei Chen Pei Hsuan 7-5, 6-2.
