TAMPARULI: Family or ethnic clans have an important role to play in nation building as it is the foundation of community unity which in turn forms the basis for national unity.

This was stated by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hj Hajiji Hj Noor when he launched the Sabah Boedon Family Clan Association (PKKBS) here on Sunday.

“Without unity within the family, there will not be unity within the community, and without community unity there will not be national unity,” he stressed.

In this respect, Hajiji who is also Sulaman assemblyman, praised former Turan district chief Imbun Orow for his far-sightedness in forming PKKBS years ago.

The association is now led by Datin Maliana Ugau with Imbun as its founding chairman cum adviser. Imbun who was also present, was later given the honour to present a souvenir to Hajiji.

Present were Hajiji’s wife Datin Juliah Salag, PKKBS patron Datuk Jahid Jahim and organising chairman Clarence.

The audience were entertained to a Sumayau dance performed by the troupe from Kampung Tagas and beating of drum/gongs called Mojumbak from Kampung Dungun Bawang Serayo. Both performances are unique to the Dusun Lotud community whose members are also in PKKBS.
