KUCHING: A German man and his wife were wounded by five ‘foreigners’ in a daylight robbery at their residence in Jalan Stutong Baru on Saturday.

The German man received 10 stitches on the head while his wife suffered a deep wound on the palm during the heist in the afternoon.

Kuching police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad said they have received a police report pertaining to the case, stating that around 2.30pm, the victims had just arrived home and with the door ajar, the robbers took the chance to storm into the house.

“The complainant (nephew of the couple) was inside the toilet of the victim’s house (with robbery in progress) when he heard noises from the living room.”

He said the complainant went out to see the two victims injured and informing him that the robbers were believed to be Indonesians, armed with parang. The robbers fled with a laptop, a camera and a bag containing personal documents.

They left the scene in a Perodua Kancil bearing a registration plate which the victims managed to note down and submit to police.

But initial investigation showed that it was a fake registration number of QAN 3420.

Both robbery victims received medical treatment at a private hospital, while their nephew headed to the police station to lodge a report with the getaway car number.

Police are tracing the suspects and the investigation is underway.

In an unrelated case, a burglar failed to break into a house at Bayor Bukit in Tabuan Jaya due to the alert house owner.

In the incident on Saturday afternoon, the owner who works as a clerk at a fast food chain, saw the suspect climb the fence and entered his house.

His screams for help were fortunately answered by a police patrol unit passing by in the area.

The police team rushed to apprehend the suspect who was hauled back to the station for investigation.
