One shot, another beaten up in brawl

KUCHING: Two young men from Kampung Merdang Limut were injured in a brawl at a premises in Kota Samarahan early yesterday morning.

One of the victims was seriously hurt on the abdomen from a gunshot believed to be from an air rifle fired from a short distance.

The other was injured on his hand believed to have been beaten up with an object.

Both aged 20 years, the victims were referred to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The victim with two wounds on the abdomen was earlier sent to the Kota Samarahan Heart Centre around 4am.

There was also a gunshot mark on his hand.

Meanwhile, the other person arrived at SGH around 9am to seek treatment.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Lee Chong Chern confirmed receiving information from the hospital regarding the two victims. However, police did not receive any report on the incident as of press time.

“The victim who was shot is the main witness in the case and will be guarded at the hospital by the police. At the same time, we will look into this case from other aspects,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Lee further said police were gathering information since the victims were warded at the hospital.

“The father of one of the victims also told us that his son told him he was shot at with an air gun,” he said.

According to the latest information from a health officer at SGH, the victim who was shot had 14 bullets in his stomach, which also affected his intestines and kidney.
