KUALA LUMPUR: The ‘Kempen Jalanan #dermaorgan’ organ donation campaign from Oct 11 to yesterday has received overwhelming response with 7,411 individuals signing up, said Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya.

He said on the first day of the campaign alone, 5,103 new donors from all levels of society pledged to donate their organs.

“This effort would not have been successful without the support of all quarters. The Health Ministry also hopes the media will continue to do its part in this endeavour,” he said at the ‘Organ Donors Appreciation Nite 2014’ at the Putra World Trade Centre here yesterday.

Also present were Public Organ Donation Awareness Action Committee chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye and chief clinical manager of the National Transplant Resource Centre, Datuk Dr Fadhilah Zawyah Lela Yasmin Mansor.

The campaign by the Health Ministry adopted a newapproach whereby the campaigners hit the streets to get people to donate  organs unlike previously where closed door approaches were made targetting small groups of people. — Bernama
