BINTULU: About 40 junior tennis players from across the state will be competing in the ‘Naim Open Junior Tennis Tournament’ from October 24 to 26 at Kidurong Club Bintulu (KKB) tennis court here.

Sim (fourth left) presents the sponsorship items to Liong as others look on.

They are representing their respective clubs, academies and associations namely from Sibu, Miri, Kuching and Bintulu.

Among the teams are KKB Tennis Academy Bintulu, BDA Tennis Academy, Sibu DLTA Tennis Academy, Miri DLTA and the Sarawak Bumiputera Lawn Tennis Association.

Tournament director Liong Woei Hua said the event is a programme that has been organised by Bintulu Division Lawn Tennis Association (BDLTA) as its annual event.

He said BDLTA, which is led by its president Sulaiman Sahari, is an association responsible in organising any tennis activity in Bintulu.

Liong added that the tournament is used to assess the level of skill among the young players and at the same time to popularise the sport among the school children in Bintulu and Sarawak.

“I would like to thank all those involved for the support given to us in developing tennis in the division as we are not only able to produce quality tennis players but also players for our state Sukma team,” said Liong.

He said this after receiving the sponsorship from Naim Holdings Bhd as the main sponsor, and other co-sponsors Swagelok (M), BSmart and three individuals at KKB last Sunday night.

Naim Holdings Bhd was represented by Naim Land Sdn Bhd Bintulu Property senior operations manager Gerald Sim and the handing over of sponsorship was witnessed by tournament secretary Ahmad Ghazi Arifin and other BDLTA committee members.

Liong hoped the association will be given continuous morale and financial support by all parties in its efforts to further develop the sport.

The tournament will be divided into three categories namely Boys/Girls U10, Boys/Girls U14 and Boys/Girls 18 and above.
