Customs senior officer denies corruption charges involving RM20,000

KUALA LUMPUR: A Customs assistant superintendent claimed trial in the Sessions Court here yesterday to nine charges of accepting bribes amounting to RM17,000.

Mohd Nor Sukri Mohd Mokhtar, 36, who is based at the Selangor Customs Department, enforcement division allegedly accepted the money from an individual as an inducement not to interfere in his liquor trade operations.

He is accused of accepting the money through his and his wife’s bank accounts at Maybank Taman Segar, Maybank Taman Connaught and Maybank Alam Damai, Cheras here between September 2013 and August 19 this year.

The accused, represented by counsel Zainal Omar, also allegedly solicited RM3,000 from the same individual for the same purpose at Restoran Kopitiam Taman Connaught, Cheras, here in September 2013.

Judge Allaudeen Ismail set bail at RM20,000 with one surety and ordered Mohd Nor Sukri’s passport to be impounded pending disposal of the case.

The court also granted deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Umar Saifuddin Jaafar’s application to trasfer the case to the Sessions Court in Shah Alam, and set Oct 30 for mention.

In another Sessions Court, a Customs assistant officer claimed trial to seven charges of corruptly accepting RM10,100 from an individual as an inducement not to inspect the latter’s premises which was selling liquor, at Taman Harmoni Indah, Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

Mohd Zulkifli Dollah, 49, who is based at the Customs export branch at Kuala Lumpur International Airport is accused of accepting the sum at Restoran Old Town White Coffee, Taman Maluri Cheras here.

The accused, represented by counsel Feisal Mustapha, allegedly committed the offences between October 2013 and August 2014.

Judge Mohd Nasir Nordin set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and ordered the accused’s passport to be impounded pending disposal of the case. — Bernama
