PUTRAJAYA: The ‘Ops Titik’ operation of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism recorded 438 cases of abuse of petrol, diesel and petroleum gas as of Oct 14, and the goods impounded were valued at RM20.84 million.

The ministry’s director of the Domestic Trade Division, Dr Noor Zari Hamat, said that in October alone, three seizures of goods valued RM28.3 million were carried out.

The ‘Ops Titik’ operation began on May 15 and will continue until Dec 31.

“We will continue the operation if it is proving to be successful,” Noor Zari disclosed at a session on ‘Delivering the Change Agenda: Structure and Process Issue’ at the three-day Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (CAPAM) 2014 biennial conference, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here yesterday.

Between May 15 and June 18 this year, several states recorded high cases of such abuse, for example Kedah (31 cases), Sarawak (18), Selangor (10), Kelantan (10) and Penang (11).

Noor Zari pointed out that other measures taken by the government under Ops Titik were standardising unbranded lorries which transported subsidised petrol and diesel by colouring the fuel blue and writing the words ‘subsidised lorry’ on the vehicles.

The ongoing operation is conducted jointly with the police, Royal Customs Department, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and local councils to curb abuse of subsidised diesel nationwide. — Bernama
