PRETORIA: South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius on Tuesday (Oct 21) arrived at the Pretoria court where he will hear his punishment for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Looking stern and clad in a dark suit, Pistorius made his way through a throng of media and onlookers to enter the high court to hear whether he goes to jail, or receive a lesser penalty of community service after being charged with culpable homicide.
South African Judge Thokozile Masipa has begun the sentencing of Pistorius, stating she wanted to find a balance between retribution, deterrence, and rehabilitation.
“Sentencing is about achieving the right balance,” said Masipa, who could give Pistorius anything from a fine to 15 years in jail. “Sentencing is not a perfect exercise.” – AFP
