Sting team seizes Syabu worth RM4 mln at KLIA

KUALA LUMPUR: The Bukit Aman Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (Sting) seized eight packets of syabu or methamphetamine weighing 37.3kg valued at RM4 million that was smuggled into the country through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) cargo terminal, on Sunday.

Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director, Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the drugs had just arrived from Addis Ababa at about 7.15pm via a commercial flight.

“A ‘STING’ team with the aid of the dog unit detected the packets of drugs wrapped in black plastic bags, placed with packets of peanuts in a box,” he told a media conference here yesterday.

On Oct 11, police detained 11 members of  an international drug syndicate, including two of its masterminds and  seized 30.3kg of Syabu worth RM3 million.

They comprised nine Nigerians, a Tanzanian woman and a local woman from Sarawak. — Bernama
