MIRI: Miri archers contributed two silver and two bronze medals to the Malaysian team at the inaugural Borneo International Outdoor Archery Championship held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from Oct 8-12.

The silver were won by Conny Chai Oni Yii in the Double 50M event and the trio of Chio Chung Yin, Ting Kee Wei and Lau Ngie Cheon in the Compound Men’s team event.

Connie then led Esther Yong and Vanessa Voon to take the Compound Women’s team bronze.

The other bronze was from the Compound Mixed team of Vanessa and Lee Kuok Seng.

According to David Ting, Miri Archery Association (MAA) president, the event saw stiff competition from archers with vast experience in the international arena.

MAA sent a total of 17 archers for the international event which attracted over 90 archers from Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Holland.

“It was a gateway for our archers to sharpen their level of competitiveness at an international standard,” Ting commented yesterday

He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Miri archers.
