Man pleads guilty to 2 offences

KUCHING: A Magistrate’s Court here yesterday fined a man a total of RM1,200 for possessing a knuckle duster in a public place and also for failing to produce his MyKad when detained.

Mohd Muslim Aziz from Kampung Tabuan Haji Drahman pleaded guilty to these offences before Magistrate Portia Tham Ong Leng.

For the first offence, he was fined RM700 in default three weeks’ jail for carrying the dangerous weapon at Kampung Tabuan Haji Drahman around 11.15pm on Oct 16.

The offence comes under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958, which provides for an imprisonment term of up to two years and also whipping.

For the second offence, he was fined RM500 in default three weeks’ jail for not carrying a MyKad when detained by police at the same time, place and date.

He was convicted under Section 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Act, 1959.

Earlier, Muslim pleaded for a lenient sentence as it was his first offence. Inspector Ezan Suhaila prosecuted.

In another Magistrate’s Courtroom, a man was slapped with a fine of RM2,000 after he pleaded guilty to supervising an illegal cyber gambling den at Sekama here.

Nizam Adhar, 20, was convicted under Section 5(1) of the Entertainment Ordinance Act, 2000, punishable under Section 5(3) of the same ordinance.

Seized during the raid conducted around 5.30pm on Dec 16 last year were equipment used to run the illegal business.

Also seized were sets of computers, monitors, keyboards, mouse, modems and money.
