Grand prize winners Jerrard Lambert Edward and Emmanual Kyries George said they did not expect to win at the national-level event.

Teacher and advisor Tchong Fui Mui said she was proud of her charges as she knew that they had given their very best.

She also expressed her gratitude to the school, all its teachers and students for their endless support, and also to Petrosains.

She said the competition had not only given students the opportunity to learn science the fun and easier way, but also on how it could be applied in their daily lives.

Drawing 600 entries from secondary schools nationwide, the competition was held across four levels – namely selection, state, semi-finals up to the grand final at Auditorium Muzium Negara, Kuala Lumpur on Oct 16.

Through Jerrard and Emmanual, SMK Tun Abdul Razak made an impressive debut in this year’s Petrosains national challenge, beating seven other finalists to become the first contender from Sarawak ever to win the honour.

The school received RM7,000, in addition to a trophy, plaque and certificates as well as RM13,000 worth of educational equipment.
