Jobless suspected snatch thief remanded for four days to help probe

KUCHING: An unemployed man suspected for committing snatch thefts at Lorong 2, Jalan Urat Mata here, was remanded for four days to facilitate police investigation.

Court registrar Abdul Razak Senawi yesterday allowed the remand application filed by the police to place the 35-year-old suspect in police custody until Oct 26.

He was arrested at his house at Taman Malihah following a public tip-off and police surveillance on Tuesday morning.

It is believed that the suspect had been involved not only in several snatch theft cases in the area but also other kind of crimes.

One of the cases involved the snatching of a RM18,000 gold necklace belonging to a male resident in the area.

Another case involved the snatching of a camera of a Chinese daily reporter who was on duty interviewing the residents pertaining to the snatch theft cases.

Following the cases, the residents submitted a petition to the police and they also hung posters of the suspect along the road.
