BALIK PULAU: The Health Ministry is studying the possibility of expanding the use of the Bio Electrical Impedance Tomography (3D EIT) special machine for breast screening.

Its  deputy  minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the special  machine, which used dual technology from Germany and Russia, was still in the research stage   to   assess   the   accuracy  of breast cancer and cyst diagnosis.

“The 3D EIT uses the latest technology that does not involve x-ray and is safe for pregnant women as it uses electric power for detection.

“The machine can detect the presence of cysts or cancer in the patient’s breast as an early detection so that the case can be referred to the hospital for further treatment,” he told reporters after officiating the Healthy Women Without Cancer programme here  yesterday.

He said at present the machine was used for general breast screening through the health programme being organised in the Balik Pulau area. — Bernama
